Connecting and healing through art & inspiration
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whomever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Rumi
Over the past month or so I have been having a love affair with Rumi. So much depth in wisdom to be found. A connection of the heart to the soul to the mind (not necessarily in that order)
The quote above reminds me that each one of us is on a roller coaster in this life. Or as Rumi describes it... we are a guest house. Ups and downs and everything in between. Each experience providing a footing for the next step. But in order to take the next step... we must first take the step that we are on... fully conscious of it so that we do not stumble. Seeing the gift in the moment and experience. It is there somewhere... we just have to look for it.
All of our feelings and experiences are important and can be used in a very creative way to touch the lives of others... darkness can be passionate, filled with soul... paint it, write it, sculpt it, sing it. I’m sure that many of the greatest heart grabbing songs were born of a broken or disturbed heart.
And what of Van Gogh? We all have our own unique gift to share.
And in the times of lightness, love and happiness... again we can use this feeling to allow our Spirit to pour through and shine a little brighter in the world. Others will connect... you may never know who is touched by your creations. Or maybe you will... either way the message, the connection has found it’s way to the destination.
We all share similar feelings but sometimes it can feel as if we are very alone in what we are experiencing... until we come across another who is feeling the same. Connection can bring healing. Art can create that connection!
Till next time
Sending love and light in the Spirit of Creativity
